Topaz-X, Emerald-X (PHILIPS / EMERALD / YAMAHA) PCMCIA card / hdd problem | 20 November, 2019

I'm trying to make a spare disk for an SMT machine. I format the new PCMCIA card with the system (using the machine's DOS, 6.20) but when the computer starts it writes that I don't have a system. How I make a floppy disk in this way - it starts from it. Any hint?

If you've formatted the pcmcia / CF card then it'll be blank and have no DOS or anything as it acts as the hard drive for the machine. A DOS diskette formatted with /S will boot from the floppy drive, then allowing software installation with the original diskettes.

If you're trying to do a full system copy of the CF card ( PCMCIA ) you can't just drag/copy files as hidden files etc don't get copied.

However, If you have a good system CF card you can do a full, perfect copy in Linux. Remove the drive and use a USB adapter to connect it to a computer.

I formatted with the FORMAT / s command or moved the system with the SYS command - system files are visible. Partition created and active. I ordered the PCMCIA adapter (PCI) only today - USB adapters do not support all cards.

In our machinery, the pcmcia cards are simply Compact Flash cards in an adapter - not sure if this is always the case though
