BGA VRAM Reworking

BGA VRAM Reworking | 7 December, 2009

I have a number of computer parts with faulty VRAM. I have two high-end video cards and a laptop motherboard, each worth over US$100, and some other parts worth less. They all exhibit symptoms typical of faulty VRAM; that is, they display multicolored vertical lines. Many of the parts have since then stopped working. I have tried putting the two video cards in the oven until a coil of solder I put next to them melted, as recommended by many computer enthusiast sites, but there is no change.

My question is, can I fix the parts with just a BGA rework? I would buy a hot-air gun to do this work. Thanks.
