Who knows something about the reliability of plasti PEMS and its enhancemant by application of conformal coating (Parylene, metal, SiO2, SiNxOx, etc.) ?

| Who knows something about the reliability of plasti PEMS and its enhancemant by application of conformal coating (Parylene, metal, SiO2, SiNxOx, etc.) ? My personal experience using PEM for military avionics applications has been very positive. Here are links to other sources of information relating to PEM reliability. http://www2.automata.com/ipc/TechNetd/9701/0220.html http://www.cera2.com/indcv/cots.htm http://rel.semi.harris.com/docs/rel/PEM/index.html http://www.calce.umd.edu/general/projects/summary/1997/c97-04.htm Regarding coating of PEM, I don't expect coating to effect reliability of the PEM to a great extent, but a good coating can improve overall circuit functionality in high humidity. | Who knows something about the reliability of plasti PEMS and its enhancemant by application of conformal coating (Parylene, metal, SiO2, SiNxOx, etc.) ? We have performed failure analyses on PEM's in our lab for many years. The vast majority of package-related PEM failures result from internal delaminations or from intermetallic growth between bond pads and wire bonds. Conformal coating will not significantly affect these failure modes. We are currently running an extended study on PEM reliability, which includes CC as a variable, but anticipate that it will not be an important player. CC does enhance the reliability of the assembly, as it always has.
