We are currently experiencing an issue with one of our reflow ovens producing large amounts of flux crystals in the end of zone 12 and entrance of cooling zone. This has been going on for roughly around 4 years now, we are using Senju M705 lead free paste. Things we have tried :

1)Cleaned debris out of pipes/blowers to clear any clogs. 2)Choked down water flow going to coolers to increase heat in hopes of turning liquidous. 3)Turned off nitrogen bar that is located at end of zone 12 and entrance of cooler to prevent any initial cold N2 hitting this area. 4) Flushed the entire water cooling system. 5) Changed out cooling zone blowers, etc.

I found some very old threads from around 2008 regarding these things, but none ever had any solutions. Has anyone else dealt with this and had any luck with solving the issue. Thanks in advance.

We tried choking down the water flow to the coolers yesterday just below above the point of where we wouldn't detect flow in the system. This raised the temperature in both coolers for this test. This morning when cleaning the buildup, this had made its way over to the 2nd cooler. This was originally only in the end of zone 12 and first cooler. Therefore, adding heat seemed to make the issue worse. For the next test, I plan to put a couple jugs of Ice in the reservoir tank to chill the water and drop the temp. We will see if this lessens the buildup.

Have you tried asking your paste supplier about this issue?

I actually just sent an email today to our paste provider ECO Solder/Senju to get their input as well.

Our paste manufacturer failed to respond. I did try adding 2 frozen jugs of water into the reservoir tank, this did not lower the cooler 1 temp. We have to have a water or air flow restriction causing this to run hotter. Still currently investigating and trying to locate root of issue.

I was at our local SMTA Michigan Chapter Tech Forum & Tabletop Expo last week and BTU was introducing a new option designed to reduce flux build-up in the heating zones. Might not be a bad idea to reach out to them to learn more about it. Just a suggestion.

This must run hotter because to a restriction in the flow of water or air. dm: geometry dash subzero
