Bow & Twist -- Hello, Recently we have been having severe problems with a new supplier for our printed circuit boards with the twisting of printed circuit boards. Previous suppliers did not cause this problem. The twisting is partly within the norm, so we cannot complain. However, it is still a problem for us, as we install the PCBs in a slide-in unit, where the PCBs should be as flat as possible. The manufacturer has now recommended that we dry the PCBs. However, he has specified a temperature of 40°C for this. I have now done some research on the Internet and have come across some documents that say that mechanical stresses in PCBs can only be reduced at a temperature above the glass transition temperature (Tg). Do you have any experience? Can moisture alone lead to warping? And is that why drying at 40°C already helps? What effect does a warped PCB have on the solder joints of components? I can imagine that the components are constantly under stress due to the warped PCB. Can signs of fatigue occur earlier? Thank you for your answers!
