Sometimes when a customer has sent parts on reel without any leader, we will take out the first 5-8 parts and then tie off the cover tape with some leftover tape from the last run. We keep those parts we removed and then place them back in the feede

I guess you mean the stick feeder. Most operators, just hold the new stick behind the one that is on the feeder and let the components slide over into the old stick. However, stick feeders are the worst way of feeding components.

Just as an option you might want to look at Assembleon also. They have an adaptive base that allows you to run the GSM feeders on the new MG machine, which is faster than the UIC machine. I do not work for Assembleon just wanted to mention it.

This is what I do when I want certain feeders to stick to certain positions: put all my feeders on feeder slot 0. Then put the feeders I do not want to move to the feeder slot they are in (program to spot 4,21 or what ever feeders slot you want them

Go for YG100 and YG88. Or in the USA the equivalent Assembleon options. The benefit is that your feeders will still be compatible. The Windows based OS on these is way easier to use than the DOS system on YV machines.
