Micro BGA pads, adhesion to laminate

Electronics Forum | Wed Jul 09 04:57:11 EDT 2003 | Matt Kehoe

Our company applies solid solder to surface mount lands. While processing a micro BGA design we had some pads fall off, peel, whatever you might call it, from the surface of the board when touched "GENTLY" with the tip of a blade to remove a small s

I encounter the problem, it is easy for pad(copper) to drop off from the PCB, which is Ni/Au finish. so my question is whether there is any specification about the force between pad and laminate material, and does the PCB corpoartion test this parame

Right-o Dave, Thats the 2 lifted pads turned upside down so actually you are looking at the bottom of the base copper where it used to be attached to the laminate. mk

Don't sound proper. There is no specification. Pad peel strength test methods are: * IPC-TM-650, Method 2.4.21 for multiple solderings * IPC-TM-650, Method 2.4.8 for copper peel with a Instron machine. Typical requirement for Cu is: 6 lbf/in [1

Mike, the one pad that is "small" definitely appears to be over etching (It looks like it was supposed to be much larger). What is the dims of this little bugger as compared to the Gerber? i would also tend to believe that there probably is some mask

I remember reading a magazine article a few years ago that discused using the copper area of a pcb to transfer heat away from large SMT devices. Does anyone know of this article or something similar that I can obtain. The article covered copper area,

Are you refering to reflow soldering or wave soldering? Brian, do you have any data to support that SAC305 is more reliable than Tin-Copper-Nickel? NEMI reccomended SAC type alloys for reflow and Tin-Copper for wave. See: http://circuitsassembly.

So I got this fully auto running machine line, that automatically pick, cut, edge grind, corner round the copper clad laminate, and I do not have a professional camara to shoot a video. How can shoot it with my phone, and still it looks amazing? Than

| I have looked through the IPC web page and surfed to frustration. Can somebody give me a lead? | Brian: We don't use an etched board. We use a special stencil, described below and print on bare copper laminate. 3 Solder Wetting Test. Recogniz
