and unfortunately I think lead-free is pertinent. Is "Implementing Lead-Free Electronics (Hwang) as good as any to start with? I'm looking for comprehensive coverage as well as "how to" recommendations/suggestions, etc.

Steve, I have her book. Its a good book discussing the entire process. If you are looking for a book strictly discussing solders, then it would be too broad.
