Agilent Technologies' VEE 8.5 Offers Enhanced Programming Environment and Support for Windows Vista(TM)

Oct 23, 2007

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the enhanced version of the Agilent VEE 8.5 graphical programming software for test and measurement, equipping users with more functions and support for the latest software tools and operating systems in the industry, including Windows Vista.

Agilent VEE 8.5 enables users to do programming in a modern, streamlined way with the software's new integrated development environment. In addition to a contemporary 3-D look and customizable toolbars, frequently used windows such as Instrument Manager and Function and Object Browser are more readily accessible with docking and auto-hiding capabilities. The software's automatic color coding of different object types also makes coding and program reading easier.

Agilent VEE 8.5 allows programmatic change of the VISA interface and address across USB, GPIB and TCP/IP interfaces, so users can communicate with the same instrument without extra configurations or coding. The software also eases integration of systems by allowing users to call its Main User Object from another programming language through its callable server.

Agilent VEE 8.5 supports the latest tools in MATLAB(r) and Microsoft(r) Office, as well as Windows Vista, which offers heightened security, ease of use and improved search capabilities.

"For many years, Agilent VEE has been simplifying programming tasks for engineers and scientists to help them redefine designs sooner," said Ee Huei Sin, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Basic Instruments Division. "Now, with version 8.5, we're collaborating closely with educational institutions worldwide so students too can use Agilent VEE in their lab and design projects for better computation, simulation and instrument control."

Further Information

Agilent VEE is an interactive, graphical language environment that provides a quick path to measurement and analysis across various industries and applications: R&D, scientific research, industrial manufacturing, education, aerospace and defense, and automotive. With Agilent VEE, programming is made simple with high-level task-oriented blocks and powerful with built-in MATLAB analysis and visualization functions. Designed for easy expansion, flexibility and compatibility with the latest industry standards, Agilent VEE allows seamless operation with hardware and software from Agilent and other companies.

Other features that come with version 8.5 include display objects that support up to 255 traces, and an output window for better debugging at run time and design time. Agilent VEE 8.5 supports MATLAB 2007a, Microsoft Office 2007 and Agilent IO Libraries Suite 15.0.

There are two versions of Agilent VEE: Agilent VEE Pro and Agilent VEE Express. Agilent VEE Express is a subset of Agilent VEE Pro, optimized for design validation and manufacturing engineers who conduct data logging, measurement and monitoring with Agilent USB-based instruments such as the USB-based data acquisition family and the 34405A digital multimeter.
