IPC Honors Members at APEX For Outstanding Contributions.

IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries, has honored 27 members at IPC SMEMA Council's Electronic Assembly Process Exhibition and Conference (APEXSM) in San Diego, CA for their contributions to IPC and the electronics industry.

Seven individuals were honored with the IPC President's Award. This award is given to members who have exhibited ongoing leadership in IPC and have made significant contributions to the association and the electronics assembly industry. This award can only be bestowed on an individual once. President's Award recipients honored at APEX 2001 were:

  • Jack Calderon, EFTC, for his work with the EMS council and the EMS program manager certification and training program.
  • Andy Mackie, Praxair, for his leadership in the Assembly and Joining Materials Subcommittee and the Solder Paste Task Group.
  • Terry Munson, CSL, for his leadership of the Cleanliness Assessment Subcommittee, Ionic Conductivity/Ion Chromatography Task Group and the Rework Cleaning Task Group.
  • Jim Maguire, Intel Corporation, for his work in the 5-22a National Standard for Soldering Task Group, which published the J-STD-001C.
  • John Sohn, Lucent Technologies, for his leadership on the Cleanliness Assessment Subcommittee and the Electrochemical Migration Task Group.
  • Dave Nicol, Lucent Technologies, for his leadership on the Component Mounting subcommittee and the Component and Process Compatibility Task Group. Nicol is also being awarded for his contributions on IPC-9501, IPC-9502, IPC-9503 and IPC-9504.
  • Karen Carpenter, IBM, for her contributions to the Assembly Market Research Council (AMRC) Steering Committee.

IPC also presented 17 Distinguished Committee Service Awards at APEX 2001. This award is given to IPC committee members who have made an exceptional contribution to a specific standard, guideline, round robin test program or other IPC programs. The following members were recognized for their contributions to IPC-7912, Calculation of DPMO and Manufacturing Indices for Printed Board Assemblies.

  • David Kettner, SMTC Manufacturing Corp.
  • Tom Olafsson, Teradyne, Inc.
  • Bill Page, Plexus Electronic Assembly Corp.

  • Fritz Byle, Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley
  • David Novick, The Boeing Co.

The following Distinguished Committee Service Award recipients were honored for their contributions on the Alternate Surface Finishes Round Robin Test Program:

  • Dennis Fritz, MacDermid
  • David Hillman, Rockwell Collins
  • Jim Reed, Dell Computer Corporation
  • George Wenger, Lucent Technologies
  • Bill Russell, Raytheon Systems Corporation
  • Brian Toleno, EMPF/ACI

For their individual work on various programs, three additional members were honored with Distinguished Committee Service Awards.

  • Karen Tellefson, Alpha Metals, for her work on the J-STD-004 Flux Specification Task Group
  • Robert Voitus, AVAYA, Inc., for his contributions to the Electronic Manufacturing Shop Floor Equipment Communication (CAM-X) series (IPC-2540).
  • Phillip Wittmer, Delphi Delco Electronics Systems, for his contributions to the Bare Board Cleanliness Task Group.

IPC also presented three Special Recognition Awards at APEX 2001. These awards are presented to individuals who have made a recent exceptional contribution to an IPC program or to the industry. The following were honored at this year's conference:

  • Mary Muller, Eldec Corporation, for her leadership on the IPC-A-610 training committee.
  • Teresa Rowe, AAI Corp., for her leadership on the Rework and Repair Training Committee, J-STD-001C Training Committee and for creating the J-STD-001 comparison video.
  • James Moffitt, Electronics Training Advantage, for his preparation of IPC-HDBK-001 Amendment 1.

APEX has been organized by the IPC SMEMA Council in response to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused onnthe products and technology of the electronics assembly industry.
