Dec 19, 2001 IPC- Association Connecting Electronics Industries has announced that Tom Newton has been named director of PWB Standards and Technology. In this position, Newton is responsible for new and existing standards in the areas of base materials and fabrication of printed circuit boards, as well as maintaining IPC involvement in new technologies in these same fields.
"We are delighted to bring an experienced industry expert like Tom to the IPC staff," said David Bergman, IPC vice president of Standards, Technology and International Relations. "Tom brings experience as a laminator, a PWB fabricator, an EMS provider, an OEM, as well as a past volunteer IPC committee chairman. Having his experience on staff will allow IPC to serve our members even better as we look to support UL programs and move into optoelectronics."
Newton was most recently a senior project engineer in Advanced Manufacturing Technology for MSL in Chicago. Prior to MSL, he worked for Rockwell-Collins, AlliedSignal, Ibiden Circuits of America and 3Com Corporation.
Newton has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and an MBA in Production Management, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
