KIC Introduces the new KIC Explorer Thermal Profiler at SMTAI

Oct 04, 2007

San Diego September 24, 2007 KIC, the leader of thermal process development and control products and winner of multiple industry awards, announces that it will launch KIC Explorer, a new generation of thermal profiler in booth 608 at the upcoming SMTA International exhibition and conference, scheduled to take place October 7-11, 2007, in Orlando, FL.

KIC Explorer, featuring an impressively compact design, moves easily through the restrictive process dimensions encountered in todays thermal applications. It incorporates state-of-the-art SMT technology and high-temperature rated components, backed by KICs distinguished reputation for reliability. You can depend on this rugged, innovative hardware to endure the harsh conditions of real-world factory use.

Modern applications introduce an array of thermal process complexities. To conquer those challenges, you need additional thermal profile data. As a standard feature, the KIC Explorer has 12 thermocouples to meet your requirements. The ingenious miniature-TC harness design makes this possible, and it is less expensive than using a standard Type-K thermocouple. (If you prefer Type-K thermocouples, the KIC Explorer is available in a standard Type-K, 7-channel model.)

Acquiring more data in a small unit is only the beginning. The KIC Explorer provides you with the highest sampling rate available, greater memory capacity and superior data precision. Thermal profile data are conveniently transferred to your computer via a USB connection. The KIC Explorer is powered by standard AAA batteries; rechargeable batteries are optional.

Data Intelligence Software

The KIC Explorers easy-to-use software has a modern, graphical interface that intuitively guides you through the task of profiling. All critical profile and process data are measured, including slope, peak temperature and time above liquidous. The software also measures the Process Window Index (PWI) statistic. The PWI mathematically and objectively identifies your profiles "fit" to the available process window. A PWI less than 100 indicates an in-spec profile. A PWI value of Zero represents the center of the process window. Therefore, the lower your PWI, the more stable and efficient your process.

The PWI also instantly reveals where your process or the oven needs to be adjusted. Manual prediction capability comes standard with the KIC Explorer. This allows you to manually adjust and improve upon your process or oven setup. The optional KIC Auto-Focus automates process improvement and optimization for you. Within seconds, the KIC Auto-Focus automatically "googles" the billions of alternative oven recipes and selects the single best oven setup for each application.

The KIC Explorer hardware and software improve your production quality, productivity and documentation. You have unmatched performance, flexibility and miniaturization with this new generation of thermal profilers.
