Dr. Sharon Nunes, IBM, to Present Keynote at SMTAI 2008 "Big Green Innovations -- Innovation that Matters..."

Minneapolis, MN� The SMTA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony at SMTAI, August 20, 2008, will feature IBM Vice President, Dr. Sharon Nunes as the keynote speaker. Dr. Nunes is currently Vice President of Big Green Innovations at IBM Systems & Technology Group (STG). Big Green Innovations is a new program at IBM that was commissioned by the chairman at the end of 2006. Its mission is to use information technology to address critical environmental problems around the world. Big Green Innovations is focused on water management, carbon management and alternative energy (photovoltaics). In this presentation Sharon will discuss IBM's approach to this new topic, and highlight ways that IBM is helping to tackle some of these important issues.

Dr. Nunes received her Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1983 from the University of Connecticut. She has held numerous academic advisory board positions, and is currently a member of the Look College Engineering Advisory Council at Texas A&M University, a member of the College of Engineering Advisory Committee at the University of Connecticut, and a member of the Board of Directors for the University of Connecticut Foundation. Sharon was a National Academy of Engineering "Frontiers of Engineering" fellow in 2000 and has been a member of the National Academy of Engineering "Engineer of 2020" advisory board. In 2006 Sharon was inducted into the University of Connecticut Academy of Engineering for distinguished engineers.
